A creation of real estate developer Carl Graham Fisher, he turned his attention to this piece of property when Miami's ship channel sliced through to the ocean in 1905. Fisher Island was bought from Dana A. Dorsey, South Florida's first black millionaire. However, political pressure stopped Fisher's constant attempts to secure state and federal dredge permits. The battle raged into the 1930s.
